Tank Truck Accident Spills Diesel Into Vallejo Creek

The U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Fish and Game Office of Spill Prevention and Response
(OSPR) are responding to a fuel spill from an overturned tank truck, in Vallejo, CA.

The tank truck overturned on the freeway connector from westbound 780 to eastbound I-80 and
discharged approximately 4,500 gallons of diesel. The discharge occurred in the vicinity of a storm drain, which leads to the Lemon Street ditch. An unknown amount of diesel reached the creek.

PSC Environmental Services is currently conducting remedial actions on the road and within the creek.
CalTrans is repairing the guard-rail, and the paved shoulder is currently closed. The CHP is currently
investigating the cause of the accident. The truck is owned by Sabek Transportation, who has assumed
responsibility for the cleanup.

At this time, seven ducks have been identified as oiled; three have already been captured and will be
taken to the San Francisco Bay Oiled Wildlife Care and Education Center in Cordelia. OSPR has
requested that no attempts be made to rescue oiled wildlife.

Raising The Number Of Driving Hours Save Lives.
The longer off-duty time allows drivers to have more regular schedules and increases the potential for quality sleep. This is consistent with fatigue- and sleep-related studies considered in development of the rule that indicate the amount and quality of sleep a person receives has a strong influence on alertness.
